Do it yourself Dome Hose
A Dome House is a hemispherical lattice shell based network of geodesic circles on the surface of a hemisphere. The key structural unit in a geodesic dome is a four-surfaced pyramid figure called a tetrahedron. The geometric shape on which all geodesic domes are based is a 20-sided polyhedron called an icosahedron. The local geodesics triangular elements got strong rigidity and also distribute the stress across the structure. If this is done exactly, each sub-triangle edge of the Dome House network is a slightly different length, requiring links of many sizes. To minimize triangles with their vertices lying approximately on the sphere. The edges of the triangles form approximate geodesic paths are over the surface of the dome.
The first Dome House dome that could be called a "geodesic" was created after World War I by Dr.Walter Baursfeldom, the chief engineer Carl Zeiss Jena for company's planetarium. The Dome House was built by Dykerhoff Wydmann and on the roof of the plant in Jena, Germany. It was open to the public in July 1926.
One of the most prominent popularizers of the Dome House the American engineer and architect Richard Fuller (1895 - 1983) (see image below). He developed the intrinsic mathematics of the dome, thereby allowing popularization of the idea — for which he received U.S. patent
| A Dome House has a small mass with a large internal living space. A hemisphere becomes one of the most efficient shapes known to enclose a given floor area. A Dome House is the safest, strongest and most energy efficient building: it has approximately one-third less surface area to the outside than a box-style structure. А dome is high resistant to high loads. Engineering for incredible snow loads is intrinsic in its design. A Dome House requires standard components to build the dome. So it can be pre-built at the factory and assembled at the place. It does not require a crane at the assembly: builders can move over the shell of the dome. A Dome House has an ideal aerodynamic shape, so round the house can be raised at the hurricane areas. Dome houses have shown themselves to endure through severe storms and even earthquakes. Interior advantages of the dome house include the complete freedom of floor plan design, space of cathedral ceilings. | ![]() |
